ABSTRACT
Purpose: To observe the behavior of the total percentage of aberrations of high order and spherical aberration in healthy Mexican adults, as well as its correlation with the depth of focus and contrast sensitivity.
Material and methods: A prospective, , transversal, observational and descriptive study was carried out between May to July of the 2008, that include healthy Mexican patients between 20 and 6 years; 77 eyes was evaluated with depth of focus , contrast, sensitivity and wave front test.
Results: Comparisons between groups were made finding significant differences in the values of contrast sensitivity and depth of focus and non significant for the aberrations values. The correlation between the depth of focus and the sphere was only one the statistically significant.
Conclusions: It was a diminution of contrast sensitivity and depth of focus, as well as an increase of percent and positive values of the aberrations conform increased of the age. There was not relation between the values of spherical aberration and total percentage of aberrations of high order with contrast sensitivity and depth of focus for the Mexican adult population studied.
