ABSTRACT
From February 11 to April 26 2003 a total of 4,836 cases with a fatality rate of 6%, of a new acute respiratory infectious disease, S. A. R. S. (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) has been reported to the OMS in more than 24 countries. SARS begins with mild respiratory symptoms that are fallowed by pneumonia and death, the etiological agent is a new coronavirus that spreads predominantly by direct contact with infectious material and through airborne route. Specific treatment, or diagnostic tests like (RT-PCR) or enzyme linked immunosorbent assays are not commercially available. Until the mode of transmission be defined more precisely, preventive measures for the community. (isolation, quarantine), and strict infection control measures for droplet and contact transmission for healthcare workers and family members of the cases, vigilant healthcare professions and public education are essential for disease prevention.REFERENCES
