ABSTRACT
Background: Ectopic pregnancy represents about 1-2% of all pregnancies. This pathology is characterized by embryo implantation in a different site other than uterine cavity. The most frequent abnormal site is the Fallopian tube, being the ampular portion the most affected one. It has been published that some factors predispose the presentation of this pathology. Objective: The objective of this study is to identify and describe the epidemiologic, clinical and sonographic characteristics of patients in our hospital with a clinical diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy and to compare these findings with previously published information. Material and methods: A retrospective, descriptive and observational study was done which included 188 patients with a diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy between 2004 and 2008. To evalute relevant antecedents, clinical and radiologic findings. Results: 47.9% (n = 90) of the patients had history of pelvic surgery, pelvic pain is the most common clinical finding in 81.4% (n = 153), and sonographic mass anexial in 42.8% (n = 80). Conclusion: The epidemiology of ectopic pregnancy it’s similar to those previously reported by other medical centers. The clinical presentation is the classic triad confirmed by serum determination of β-HCG and a sonogram.REFERENCES
