ABSTRACT
For a long time renin-angiotensin system was thought to be only a regulator of systemic arterial pressure and electrolytic balance. Recently it has been established that this system participates in the regulation of other processes through its effector, angiotensin II, including pathologies such as cardiac or renal fibrosis. In this review we present the new evidences indicating that renin-angiotensin system participates in fibrosing processes that might play a relevant role in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
