A 7
th month gestation fetus was born alive of a clinically healthy cow. The cow belonged to a herd of 350 animals and was serologically negative to the bovine leukaemia virus. The neonate had numerous white, firm, smooth nodules scattered all over the body surface. Nodules varied from 1-5 cm of diameter. The lesions were exuberant on the skin, and there were also lesions in the subcutaneous tissue and muscle. Other changes included enlarged lymph nodes. Histopathology revealed neoplasic lymphoid cells. Virus particles were not detected using the electron microscopic study. The diagnosis of sporadic bovine leukosis and skin type was done on clinical, epidemiological and pathological grounds. Sporadic bovine leukosis is a rare neoplasic disease, with an unknown aetiology, and is more common in immature animals. The present report is unusual due to its age presentation, exuberant lesions, and has not been reported before. More studies of sporadic bovine leukosis are needed, as unusual presentations, such as this one reported in this paper, can occur.
