ABSTRACT
Abiological and economical evaluation was conducted with 24 pigs in Axochiapan, Morelos State in Mexico (Central Mexico) during 11 weeks. The initial weight of the pigs was 30 kilograms; 264 records were evaluated and divided in four groups according to four diets. Three of the diets were made with regional products, the fourth was a commercial diet (Albamex). Weight and length were registered fortnightly, as well as the evaluation of costs for each diet. The assessment was made with a model which relates the weight as a function of the time. The models were validated through residual analysis. These models indicated that the estimated models are trustworthy. The growth of pigs fed with Albamex was superior to the other diets. Diet two was the most efficient according to the relation of growth and cost; following efficiency, was diet 1. The operation cost for feeding with Albamex was 71.2%, whilst the first diet had the lowest proportion with 54.83%. The toncost fluctuation was between $903,750.00 and $453,690.00, respectively. This evaluation confirms that the commercial food is not convenient for small holders.
