ABSTRACT
The aggressive angiomyxoma (AA) is a neoplasm of low incidence which occurs mainly in the perineum and pelvic area of women in the reproductive period. It is characterized by its slow growth and tendency to reccur locally. A case of AA that originated in the vulva of a 24 year-old woman with two previous normal pregnancies is reported. The tumor was pediculated and attached to the left major labius. Histologically, the tumor is hypocellular, myxoid, with fusiform stellate cells, immunoreactive for vimentin, desmin, actin and estrogen and progesterone receptors. The histologic and immunohistochemical characteristics are presented, with emphasis in the presence of hormonal receptors, as indicators for a probable antihormonal treatment in cases not completely excised.
