ABSTRACT
It was performed a comparative study between two tests in order to determine the viral load to the human immunodeficiency virus 1 and to the hepatitis C virus (HCV) (COBAS AmpliPrep/COBAS. AMPLICOR: HIV-1 Monitor Test and Abbott Real-Time HIV-1 and AmpliPrep/COBAS AMPLICOR HCV Monitor Test V2.0, and Abbott Real-Time HCV Test) in 78 patients suffering from HIV-1 and 61 patients with viral hepatitis type C (HCV) subjected to antiviral therapy. It was obtained a correlation of R = 0.96 for HIV and of R = 0.87 for HCV between the two tests. These coefficients and the fact that the difference between the viral loads from a single sample never went over the 0.5 of the logarithm assure that the technological changes will not impact on the results of the evaluation of the antiviral therapies.
