Trigliceridos de cadena media en el tratamiento de obesidad.

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of medium chain triglycerids (MCT) in weight loss, antrophometrical and blood changes under a hipocaloric diet. Twenty-four over-weighted, both-sexes, nonsick 25 to 38 years-old individuals during 3 months, were divided into two groups: the treaty (n=11) and the control group (n=13). Treatment consisted of a hipocaloric diet, 50% MCT y 50% large chain triglycerids (LCT) from 25% of the total energy requierement, complete fiber requirements (25 g/day) and moderate excercise. The control group had the same regimen except that LCT was given at only 25% of the total energy requirement. Total colesterol, HDL, LDL, Trigycerids, total glucose, uric acid, triyodotironine, tirosine and tirotropine in serum, and cetonic bodies and urea in urine was determined to all individuals. Differences in total weight-loss (3 kg vs 4.7 kg, control group and treaty), skinfold thicknes was smaller in treaty than control group (-20.24 ± 19.6 vs -12.9 ± 24.7 respectively), and arm-muscular-area between treaty was greater then control group (4.54 mm
2 ± 18 vs - 0.88 mm
2 ± 21 respectivelyl) , but was not significant (P› 0.05). Colesterol, LDL and triglycerids was lower in the treaty group but this difference was not significant either (P›0.05); HDL was also similar in both groups. Body-weight loss, all biochemicaldeterminations, and the cardivascular risk are similar in both groups; therefore, MCT’ s were not efficient in reducing weight in individuals under a hipocaloric diet.
