ABSTRACT
Objective: To determine the relationship between campimetric damage, central corneal thickness (CCT), maximum variation of intraocular pressure (MVIOP) in 24 hours and optic nerve cupping.
Materials and methods: Clinical files of patients with diagnosis of primary open angle glaucoma where studied. Patients were divided according to age, sex, CCT, MVIOP, campimetric damage and optic nerve cupping; relationship was measured, based on age groups, between campimetric damage and CCT and MVIOP, as well as between optic nerve cupping and CCT and MVIOP, using Pearson coefficient.
Results: 190 eyes from 100 patients were included, obtaining the following average values: age, 55 years; CCT, 543.7µm; corrected IOP, 20.52 mmHg; MVIOP, 7.45 mmHg; median deviation in campimetry, –6.52; optic nerve cupping, 60.8%. A correlation was demonstrated between disc cupping and MVIOP and with campimetric damage, as well as between CCT and campimetric damage. Correlation between CCT and disc cupping was only found in patients from 41-60 years old.
Conclusions: Average CCT found is similar to that reported in other studies with Latin-American populations. There is relationship between MVIOP and disc cupping, as well as between MVIOP and campimetric damage, and between CCT and campimetric damage. Correlation between CCT and MVIOP was not found.
