ABSTRACT
Intestinal atresia is one of the most important causes of intestinal obstruction in the newborn; it may be present at different levels, as a single or multiple malformations. The incidence of intestinal atresia in the general population ranges according to the number of reported patients. Colonic atresia is the least frequent cause of neonatal intestinal obstruction; the estimated incidence is between 1.8 and 5.0% of all cases of intestinal atresia in the newborns. A type I case of colonic atresia in a newborn male is presented, undergoing a satisfactory post-surgical evolution.
