Características clínicas y abordaje quirúrgico del teratoma ovárico

ABSTRACT

Objective: It was carried out a comparative study in patients with histologic diagnosis of ovarian teratoma, approached by means of the laparoscopic technique or laparotomy, to compare the advantages and disadvantages of both techniques, in terms of surgical bleed, days of stay and complications.
Design: It was a retrospective study of January 1998 to December of the 2000, in an open population of 56 patients with histologic diagnosis of ovarian teratoma.
Results: The average age of the patients was of 30 years, 36 of the cases were approached by laparotomy and 20 by laparoscopy. The average IMC was of 26.7 and 25.7, respectively. They presented some symptom, the patients’ of the group I 43.2% and 27% of the group II. Previous correct diagnosis of teratoma was established before the surgery, in 66% of the cases. Bigger complications were not reported in the study group. The present work discusses in extensive the advantages and disadvantages of both techniques.
Conclusion: In this study, the advantages reported in other studies that consider the laparoscopic technique better than the laparotomy were not corroborated. It is probable that the surgeons prefer the open technique instead of laparoscopy, due to the intrinsic characteristics of dermoid tissue.
