ABSTRACT
Objective: To determine the pattern of the estrogen receptors ER-α and ER-β expression in a surgical-induced endometriosis in the Wistar rat.
Material y methods: Mature cycling rats were used. Experimental peritoneal endometriosis was induced by surgery. ER-α and ER-β expression were detected by immunohistochemistry and serum estradiol content was measured by radioimmunoassay (RIA), using specific antibodies.
Results: There are not statistical differences in the pattern of the ER-α and ER-β expression, between normal and endometriotic tissues. But the expression of the ER-α was higher than ER-α. The receptor expression did not dependent from the estradiol content in serum.
Conclusions: The present work document for first time the pattern expression of the estrogen receptor beta (ER-β) in peritoneal rat endometriotic tissue, which was not different to the control tissue.
