ABSTRACT
Objective: To classify the mother-infant interactions in dyadic systems and to determine their relationship with the structuring from the sequel to the year of age in children with neurological damage of perinatal origin.
Methodology: Authors carried out a prospective, longitudinal and observational study, on the behavior of 31 mothers and their children with diagnosis of neurological damage of perinatal origin, that assisted to the Laboratory of Neurodevelopment Follow-up of the National Institute of Pediatrics of Mexico City, from 1995 to 1997. The interactions were analyzed in videotape recording in free game situation to the 4, 8 and 12 months of age. 4 types of dyadic system were identified.
Results: The system 1, included organizing mothers and children with possibilities of organizing their development, with interactions of reciprocity; they associated with infantile development without sequel. The system 2, included organizing mothers and children with difficulties in its development, they didn’t have consistent associations. The system 3, included mothers who disorganize and children with possibilities of organizing its development, with brief interactions and non interactions; they associated with light sequels. The system 4, included mothers which disorganize and children with difficulties in its development, with brief interactions and non interactions, they associated with severe sequels.
Conclusions: The classification of dyadic systems contributes to the prediction of the presence and sequels severity in children with neurological damage of perinatal origin.
