ABSTRACT
Objective: Determine the BBM values and BMD in “health” patients, with osteopenia and osteoporosis as well as the association between biochemical bone markers and bone mineral density to determine Mexican patients during climacteric state in the Instituto Nacional de Perinatología. Methodology: A descriptive study of the biochemical bone markers (BBM) in patients (women) with osteopenia and osteoporosis. We determine the classification (normal, osteopenia and osteoporosis) with the values of the bone densitometry with the DEXA NorlandXR26 equipment. All the patients never had the background of have taken hormonal replacement therapy, also osteoporosis treatment. This study was transversal and observational. Results: Sixty patients (18.2%) had osteoporosis, 176 (53%) osteopenia and 91 (27.8%) normal. We found a significant association between deoxipiridinoline and bone densitometry measure. As lower we find the bone densitometry measure, higher we found the deoxipiridinoline value. Conclusions: As we compare deoxiporidinoline with each group of bone densitometry values, we found a significative difference between the three groups (normal, osteopenia and osteoporosis) with a p = 0.02.REFERENCES
