ABSTRACT
Due to the appearance of preadjusted fixed appliances and diverse changes in shape and size of brackets, orthodontic treatments have been improved because teeth are located on a better position in the alveolar bone. Nevertheless, we can not say that just one prescription may be extremely useful to resolve any class of malocclusion without taking notice in the individual characteristics of the patient. The purpose of this study was to know how close to the original prescription (Alexander .018, Roth .018, Roth .022 y MBT .022) were the final results of dental labial inclination in patients which finished their orthodontic treatment with and without extractions, during the period 2000-2002 at DEPeI. There were 80 study models, each teeth was measured by Andrews method to determine the final labial inclination. This way, results indicated that inclinations of MBT cases with and without extractions had more differences than those established on the original prescription. However, with the rest of the cases, there were at least 3 measures with a great significance in comparison with each prescriptions, being the inclinations in Roth (.018 and .022) and Alexander’s prescriptions the ones that presents a larger number of inclinations near the original, specifically in the cases with extractions Since the causes of these results can be related to different variables, we propose another investigation which specifies them, so in the future orthodontists may design brackets based on characteristics of each patient.REFERENCES
