Prevalencia de inclusión dental y patología asociada en pacientes de la Clínica de la Facultad de Odontología Mexicali de la UABC

RESUMEN
El propósito de este estudio fue determinar la prevalencia de inclusión dental y patología asociada de la población que acude a la Clínica de la Facultad de Odontología Mexicali de la Universidad Autónoma de Baja California. Se realizó un estudio retrospectivo del año 2003 donde se evaluaron historias clínicas y series radiográficas de los 3,449 pacientes ingresados durante este año en la Clínica de la Facultad de Odontología. Los pacientes mayores de 17 años de edad fueron 2,865 (promedio de edad de 30.76). Los pacientes que presentaron una inclusión dental o más fueron 767 (26.77%). Se encontró un total de 1,411 dientes incluidos, los cuales fueron analizados y se registró su posición y localización. Los dientes incluidos encontrados con mayor frecuencia fueron los terceros molares mandibulares (79.29%), seguidos por los terceros molares maxilares (19.71%) y los caninos maxilares (0.57%). Los segundos molares adyacentes a dientes incluidos que presentaron pérdida ósea mayor a 5 mm en la superficie distal fueron del 6.02%. Además se encontró caries en la cara distal del segundo molar, asociada a dientes incluidos en 3.96% de los casos. La resorción de la raíz del diente adyacente y el agrandamiento del espacio correspondiente del folículo pericoronario se encontró en relativamente pocos casos (4.82%).
