ABSTRACT
This article describes a number of prevention programs during the perinatal period: pregnancy, early and late postpartum stages. Early intervention has positive effects in the emotional state of the parents, improves the quality of the parent-infant relationship as well as the emotional and behavioral development of the child in the short and long term. Primary health care staff has a central role in their implementation, providing material and emotional support to the prospective parents, support during the delivery and home visitation in the first years of life. The content of several programs is described, as well as the empirical evidence about their efficacy and action mechanisms.
