ABSTRACT
The adolescent mothers have in common only their age. Each one shows different sociographic characteristics which all together call to be necessary treated in an Institution of Health Service by means of educational programes upon sexual and reproductive health, promoting knowledge and self-care in order to decrease the frequency of first pregnancy so the subsequent ones occur in adequate time to the adolescent mother and her first child. The goal of this paper was to know the sociodemographic profile of the mothers who were treated in the Hospital General de México during 2000 to 2001, according to the data gotten by the social worker following a well structured scheme used during the period of time above mentioned, trying to have information upon the mother, the newborn and the father. Out of the 702 cases included to this analysis it is concluded that the 26% of the treated cases were classified in the adolescent group. The 19% followed a prenatal control in the Hospital General de México. More than 30% were 2
nd, third, or even fourth pregnancies. At discharge only 4% had a contraceptive method indicated. They had basic education but they didn’t work neither study. 63% were married or lived together with the newborn’s father and in 40% of the cases the couple partner was only an adolescent boy.
