Dietetic factors associated to asthma in children

ABSTRACT

Objective. To identify the nutritional factors associated to bronchial asthma.
Material and methods. A cases and control study was designed: 45 children with asthma and 45 controls. The information was obtained from clinical files and interview. The estimation of risk was done by odds ratio.
Results. The factors with strongest association were: the weaning before 5 month of age (RM:10.2), the breastfeeding practice by less 4 month (RM:6.1), feeding with cow milk before six month (RM:6.0), including soybean (RM:4.6) and eggs (RM:4.0) in the diet before of the first years.
Conclusion. The role of some food in the genesis of this disease it is confirmed. Also there was association with the wean before 4 month and the breastfeeding practice by less 4 month with the asthma in children.
