ABSTRACT
Main Goal: Determine if subcutaneous Buprenorphine Is better than Nalbuphine for postoperative analgesia of abdominal surgery.
Type of Study: Controlled clinical Trial.
Material and Methods: Thirty patients submitted to abdominal surgery were studied In the postoperative period. They were randomly allocated to one of two groups: Group A: (n=15) 2-3 mcg/kg of subcutaneous buprenorphine were administrated as soon as pain was referred and Group B: (n=15) 10 mcg/kg of subcutaneous nalbuphine were administrated as soon as pain was referred. Pain Intensity was measured using an analogue visual scale (EVA), measuring also mean arterial pressure (TA), heart rate (FC) and respiratory rate (FR) at 30, 60 minutes and 4 and 8 hours after the administration of the evaluated drug. Analysis was done by means of Student’s «t» Test and Chi square.
Results: Onset of analgesia was at 5 minutes In both groups, but In group A pain Intensity was low at 4 hours whereas In group B such Intensity was reached In 60% of the cases, reaching moderate level In 40% (p›0.05). For group A moderate pain was reached after 8 hours; for group B the same pain Intensity was reached In 86.7% of the patients, being severe In 13.3% of the patients of the same group (›0.05). Vital signs showed no significant changes In neither group.
Conclusions: Analgesia with both evaluated drugs was optimal, but duration was longer with buprenorphine than with nalbuphine In the studied population.
