ABSTRACT
Introduction. Malformations of the female genital system caused by and alteration inuterus,or by the retention or delay in neonatal period, where the magnitude and type of lesion is given by the moment in witch the normal period development is interrupted.
Objective. To know the type and characteristics of female genital system malformation in adolescents.
Material and Methods. Retrospective study made form January 1995 thirty one December 2005 in adolescents who were diagnosed with a female genital malformation. The analyzed variables were personal background, medical profile diagnostic method, treatment, complications and outcome.
Results. There were 23 cases, with an average age of 15 years old, in 20 cases the cause for consultation was abdominal pain, in 1|7 cases the diagnoses was made by pelvic ultrasound. The predominant type of malformation was imperforated hymen followed by alterations in the Muller c0nducts that lead to the uterus in 10 cases, vaginal septum was fond in 4 cases, 1 case of cervix agenesia and upper third of vagina in 1 case. In 5 case the patient was pregnant, that were diagnosed with vaginal septum, in two cases, and bicornus uterus in two cases, and didelphic uterus in one case. Surgical treatment was required in 20 cases, and a pelvic haematuria was a surgical discovery in 8 cases.
Conclusion. It’s important to make a correct an timely diagnosis where take in account the mental and reproductive heath and have a multidisciplinary tame for an integral treatment.
