ABSTRACT
Introduction: Prenatal sonographic diagnosis of congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation of the lung has been described in the medical literature since 1980. Before the advent of sonography, the diagnosis of cystic adenomatoid malformation was primarily made in symptomatic patients or it was a fortuitous finding. Currently, the technological advancement has allowed making a timely prenatal diagnosis, offering the patient a suitable and integral treatment.
Case: We describe the case of a newborn with the diagnosis of cystic adenomatoid malformation type II, which was diagnosed by prenatal sonography, which was surgically removed before any clinical manifestation.
Conclusions: Cystic adenomatoid malformation is an uncommon pathology characterized by an anomalous development of the lung. The prognosis of the patients with this pathology is getting better with time, because technology offers us the tools to elaborate a precise and opportune diagnosis.
