A preliminary Report on Fetal Abuse at the HIES from 2002-2007.

ABSTRACT
Objective. To identify the incidence of fetal abuse as a part of child abuse.
Material and Methods. We reviewed in a retrospective manner all cases of fetal abuse registered by the Clinic of Integral Attention
to Minors in Difficult Situations (CAIMSD) in the Children’s Hospital of the Sonora State (HIES) and at the Integral Woman
Hospital (HIMES) in the period comprehended from the 2002 to the 2007. The variables considered were: Age (new borns), sex
mother drug history (alcohol, marihuana, cocaine, methamphetamines, heroin, metadona).
Results. In the period from 2002 thru 2007, 505 patients of suspicion of child abuse, finding in 162 of newborn with diagnosis of
fetal abuse and it represent a 32.8% of the total. Of which 84 were female (51.85%) and 78 male (48.14%).
Conclusions. Fetal abuse is the most common of child abuse in the hospitalized patient, the early detection, prevents other forms of
violence in the future, reason why we suggest an investigation on behavior patterns of parents addiction, adjacent factors to drug
users in search of programs that have a effective influence, and avoiding this psycho-social pathology that put; in direct harms way
all children.
