ABSTRACT

Heart failure has emerged as a high prevalent syndrome, also with high mortality and elevated costs, presenting mainly in the elderly. This article discusses the main advances in this condition as: definitory new criteria, dysfunction classes, new classification by stages and the advances in the knowledge of physiopathology, diagnosis and treatment.
