ABSTRACT
Psoriasis is an inflamatory skin illness, of an unknown ethiology without a definitive treatment. Two basic facts take place during the development of psoriasis: epidermal hyperproliferation and inflammatory infiltrate. There are many treatments to control these problems, some of them act against hyperproliferation and others regulate the immunological disorder. The use of an external application treatment is very important because 75% of patients suffer this illness in less than the 20% of their body surface. One of the most successful treatments combines topical corticosteriods, which have an anti-inflamatory effect, with drugs against hyperproliferation, like vitamin D-analogous. However, this mixture had some limitations such as bioavailability, component stability and the posible existence of side effects. Since calcipotriol needed a basic pH, as opposing to the acid pH needed by corticoids, the simultaneous use of both active principles is not impossibleRecently, a stable external vehicle has been obtained. Many multicentric, internacional and prospective studies have shown that this is an efficient, tolerant and savety treatment, being better than each one of the components by itself. For this reason, the most recommendable choice is to use calcipotriol (50 µg/g) in combination with dipropionate of betametasona (0,5 mg/g) in order to get a fast improvement. Afterwards, the use of calcipotriol as the only active principle for the control of psoriasis is recommended.
