ABSTRACT
Objective: To analyze the rational use of drugs at a primary-level health care center in Villa Gobernador Gálvez, Santa Fe, Argentina, during 2005. Design: We conducted a descriptive, cross-sectional, and retrospective study. Materials and Methods: We took into consideration the prescriptions of drugs afforded by physicians at their offices. Drug use of was mainly divided into therapy groups in accordance to the organ upon which they act (ATC). Analysis took place with the indicator known as Defined Daily Doses (DDDs) in response to World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations in drug use studies. Results: We analyzed 1,818 prescriptions derived from 8,016 appointments with physicians. The results showed that the prescribed drugs most frequently widely administered were the following: Enalapril and Hydroclorotiazid; Amoxicillin and Erythromycin, and Ibuprofen and Paracetamol. Conclusions: Analysis of the use of drugs allows to know the health needs of the population and consequently, to plan adequate pharmacologic strategies in response to these requirements.REFERENCES
