ABSTRACT
Background: The main goal of the implantation of multifocal lenses is to restore the visual acuity in the presbyopic patient with or without cataract. ReSTOR® lens seems to be one of the most useful to achieve a high satisfaction degree.
Objective: To determine visual quality and satisfaction degree after the implantation of the ReSTOR® lens.
Methodology: Cohort study of patients who underwent ReSTOR® lens implantation. We included patients older than 45 years, who didn’t want to use glasses anymore, with ametropia ≤1diopter and astigmatism ≥1.A complete ophthalmological evaluation was made before and after the surgery. The post operating satisfaction degree was assessed with subjective and objective measurements.
Results: We included 60 patients, mean age (±DE) 57.5 ± 9.6 years. We found a significant improvement after surgery in terms of near vision (0.42 ± 0.16 vs. 0.02 ± 0.06 p‹0.001), distant vision (0.59 ± 0.31 vs. 0.08 ± 0.13 p‹0.001) and refraction (1.4 ± 2.2 vs. 0.31 ± 0.69 p‹0.001). Eighty three percent of patients described a high satisfaction degree and only 4.3% referred disappointment.
Conclusion: Implantation of ReSTOR® lens achieves a high improvement of the visual quality and a high degree of satisfaction in treated patients.
