ABSTRACT
Introduction: To compare the effectiveness of Orbscan II and classical gonioscopy in determining the changes of anterior chamber angle amplitude after Nd:YAG iridotomy. Methods: A group of patients that required Nd:YAG iridotomy for narrow or closed angles were evaluated by experienced ophthalmologists with gonioscopy and Orbscan before and after the procedure and results were compared with Student’s t test.
Results: Forty nine eyes of 25 patients were included in this study. Using gonioscopy the anterior chamber angle increased an average of 1.59 degrees in Shaffer’s classification (P≤0.001) but when Orbscan was used it seems to be reduced in 3.68° using the plano analysis (P≤0.001) and 5.64° in the polynomial analysis (P≤0.001)
Conclusion: There is not accordance in the variation of the anterior chamber angle using gonioscopy and Orbscan II analysis after Nd:YAG iridotomy.
