ABSTRACT
Objective: To determine and compare the seropositivity in patients with clinical diagnosis of ocular toxoplasmosis, as well as in patients with other ocular inflammatory diseases and calculate the sensitivity and specificity of the serological tests in our institution.
Material and methods: Retrospective study, transversal, descriptive and observational. Overview of patient records with serology for toxoplasmosis as well as comparison according to its clinical diagnosis and the results of serological titles and finally calculate the sensibility and specificity.
Results: Five hundred and six clinical charts were evaluated, a group with the clinical diagnosis of ocular toxoplasmosis (Group 1) which included 132 patients; the group with other ocular inflammation diagnosis (Group 2) included 374 patients, the demographic variables were similar in both groups. In Group 1 the serology for Ig G was positive in 75.8%, in Group 2 in 36.6%.
The serology for Ig M was positive in 3% on Group 1 and 2.6% on Group 2. The general sensibility was 0.758 and the
specificity was 0.663.
Conclusions: There is a clinical-serological correlation in 75% of the patients with ocular toxoplasmosis. The sensibility of the test is high, specially in dilutions of 1:32, the specificity is low at the studied dilutions.
