ABSTRACT
Purpose: To compare the mydriatic efficacy of two different concentrations of cyclopentolate applied in healthy children.
Material and methods: Prospective, descriptive, double blind and longitudinal study. We included 30 eyes from 30 patients, between 1 and 12 years of age, in all a refraction study was performed. In each one in a randomized way one of the two formulations of topic cyclopentolate eye drops (0.5%-15 patients, 1%-15 patients) were applied into the lower cul-de-sac of right eye. Horizontal and vertical pupil diameters were measured at different time intervals.
Results: The 0.5% cyclopentolate eye drops treatment group showed the same vertical and horizontal pupil diameters as the 1% cyclopentolate eye drops treatment group. No statistical differences were observed between both groups.
Conclusions: The effectiveness to produce mydriasis in children was similar for both concentrations.
