ABSTRACT
Background: The pregnancy is distinguished by physical and metabolic changes. Affects the head, the neck, among others, and can complicate existing conditions or facilitate the appearance of symptoms and new diseases.
Objectives To determine the otolaryngology morbidity in the pregnant women who go to consultation medical. To review the present concepts related to the medicine use implied with otolaryngologycal diseases.
Patients and methods: A prospective cross-sectional study was made to determine the morbidity otolaryngology in the pregnant women who assisted to medical consultation.One hundred-fifty pregnant women were included (50 of every trimester) themselves who went to external consultation of
prenatal control of the service of gynecology and obstetrics. It was applied a questionnaire to document the otolaryngology manifestations of the pregnancy.
Results: Total sample, 22% declared some diagnosed and treated otolaryngologycal disease before the pregnancy, such as: allergic rinitis, bronchial asthma and hypotiroidism.
Conclusions: The most frequent otolaryngology symptoms in the pregnancy were the pirosis, regurgitation and the nasal prurit. The treatment of these patients was preservative, due to the risk for the mother and the fetus.
In this study a high incidence of labial herpes was found, important fact because it has not been reported in the Mexican literarure.
