ABSTRACT
Background: The basal membrane is a structure of the extracellular matrix of the internal environment, and it separates epithelial membranes of the connective tissue. Components of the cochlear duct, such as the spiral limbo, the Corti’s Organ and the vascular groove, are integrated by
these tissues and have basal membrane with morphological variants that depend on the function of its cells.
Objective: To verify the existence or absence of the basal membrane between the cells and tissues of the duct to coclear duct. If there is basal membrane, to observe his morphological variants.
Material and methods: They were sacrificed five cobay by intracardiac perfussion, the skulls were dissected and processed with the common histological technique to include the skulls. Series cuts of the cocleas were obtained and dyed by hematoxiline and eosin technique; preparations were observed in the confocal microscope.
Results: The conective tissue of the coclear duct contains collagen, which is fluorescent (by the eosin stain) to be excited with the laser of the confocal microscope.
Conclussion: With the fluorescence of the collagen the basal membrane is discovered and stood out, one of the most important components of the extracellular matrix.
