ABSTRACT
In order to select a control group of healthy adolescents, to be compared regarding different clinical aspects with a group of adolescents with Attention Deficit Disorder, we studied 37 subjects aged between 14 and 16, high school students, free of psychiatric pathology, according to The Kiddie Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia (K-SADS) in its Mexican version (K-SADS-PL-MEX). Also they were evaluated through a digital electroencephalogram and with the Intelligence Scale Reviewed for Children WISC-R. Most subjects came from two schools of Mexico City, although some were children of collaborators of the National Institute of Psychiatry Ramon de la Fuente. Only those with a minimum average of 8 points in their academic evaluations were included, as long as in opinion of their parents or of the authorities of the school, they did not present any behavioral problem.
After being tested with the K-SADS-PL-MEX applied by a specialist specifically enabled in its handling, it was found that, like in other studies, 26% of this population fulfills the diagnoses criteria for one of these three disorders: Attention Deficit Disorder; Anxiety Disorder; or Depression Disorder. Twenty six per cent of the population, considered as healthy people, seem to be in risk of presenting a psychiatric problem. It is important to call the attention of parents and teachers at school, on the necessity to follow closely the development and behavior of the young people.
