ABSTRACT
This study was done in order to identified children infected by rotavirus in a cohort of 31 healthy children below 3, years of age followed during six months in a day care center in the City of Merida. During the study feces of the children were collected biweekly.
Detection was done by using a commercial ELISA test. Three hundred fifty six samples of feces were collected and from them, 3 (0.8%) were positive, and corresponded to 3 children; none of them had diarrhea in that moment those cases occured during an outbreak of rotavirus in the City. Children had diarrhea butthey stayed at home. Their positivity could be because children infected with rotavirus may continue excreting it until 2 weeks after disease, remaining as carriers.
