ABSTRACT
Storage of blood bags can produced toxic metabolites as can damage at the receptor that receives it. Some of these toxic metabolites are from nitric oxide as can reactive with hemoglobin to form S-nitrosohemoglobin. Lower oxygen affinity is development by S-nitrosohemoglobin thus a damage to human receptor is possible.
Objective: Our objective was to determine the concentration of S-nitrosohemoglobin in blood bags storage by 30 days.
Material and methods: Ten globular packages were chosen following the routine procedures of the blood bank of our institution. Samples of each package were obtained daily for five days and every five days until 30 days. Concentration of S-nitrosohemoglobin was determined on erythrocytes.
Results: An important increment was show in the concentration of S-nitrosohemoglobin along the time in the erythrocytes from globular packages.
Conclusions: The increment in the concentration of S-nitrosohemoglobin in the globular packages it can be a factor that produces adverse reactions in the patient that receives a blood transfusion.
