ABSTRACT
In breast cancer, in the majority of oncological centers, the recent trend is immediate reconstruction. The options for reconstruction are already well established, their advantages and disadvantages and the main complications. Nevertheless, in an effort to establish the factors that influence in a definitive way the decision of what reconstruction must be undertaken, we evaluated a total of 51 patients reconstructed with autologous tissue, with prosthesis or with a combination of both. The evaluation consisted of an analysis of the aesthetic outcome using a global scale of 10 points, one done by the patient herself and the other by a plastic surgeon not involved in the surgical procedure. Besides other important external factors such as radiotherapy and complications were analyzed for the aesthetic final outcome. Results demonstrated that the best aesthetic evaluations were obtained in patients that were reconstructed with autologous tissue. We believe that whenever possible this should always be the reconstructive option.
