ABSTRACT
During recent years microsurgical techniques have evolved in a very important way creating great therapeutic expectations in different surgical specialties, plastic surgery among them, where it and the transfer of free tissue as a solution to complex reconstructive problems is becoming more frequent. However, an important challenge that a plastic surgeon faces after the transfer of a flap is being able to evaluate vascular perfusion and the viability of transferred tissue in the postoperative period. Most of the time this monitoring relies on subjective parameters based mainly on the classical appearance of the tissue including colour, texture, capillary filling and external skin temperature. The goal of this paper is to show the preliminary results obtained using an optic fibre transductor with a pressure and temperature sensor, as a means to monitor. 10 male patients between 12 and 45 years old were treated at the Dr. Rubén Leñero Hospital of the Mexico City Health Secretariat. The flaps were under continuous observation for a 7 day-period. An adequate correlation was found between discoveries registered by optic fibre and clinical postoperative evolution.
