ABSTRACT
Objective: To report a case of acute pancreatitis following thrombolytic therapy for acute myocardial infarction (AMI).
Design: Case report.
Setting: ICU of second level hospital of Durango City, Mexico.
Patient: An AMI 52-yr-old man.
Interventions: Thrombolytic therapy (IV streptokinase).
Measurements and main results: Continuous ECG monitoring was made. On 6th hour hospital stay he had abdominal pain, hyperamylasemia (1150 U) and an ultrasound study revealed pancreas swelling. The treatment consisted in nasogastric suction and IV fluids. The course of illness was satisfactory and eight days later he was discharged to home.
Conclusion: Acute pancreatitis is an unusual complication of thrombolytic therapy.
