Repair of large defects of the chest wall

ABSTRACT

Chest wall tumors require wide resections; the repair should maintain chest wall stability to avoid respiratory complications.
A 53 year old man underwent resection of a giant chest wall chondrosarcoma. The chest wall was repaired with a sandwich prosthesis made of methylmethacrylate within a double layer of polypropylene mesh. One year later the patient is in satisfactory oncologic, anatomic, functional and cosmetic conditions.
