ABSTRACT
Iatrogenic arteriovenous fistulas are the result of a diagnostic or therapeutic intervention. It is common to find them in association with pseudoaneurysm.
We present the case of a patient who developed an anterior tibial arteriovenous fistula and pseudoaneurysm secondary to arthrodesis of the right ankle. The patient underwent surgical treatment with resection of the pseudoaneurysm and repair of the anterior tibial artery with vein graft.
The arterial lesions secondary to orthopedic procedures have been reported but they are possibly under diagnosed, and therefore the small number of series published. Their recognition requires the diagnostic suspicion and will be influenced by the severity of its signs and symptoms, consequently they may be diagnosed until months or years after the procedure that caused them. Their treatment can be undertaken by surgical or minimally invasive approaches.
