ABSTRACT
Introduction: Mechonium ileum is defined like a lower intestinal obstruction caused by mechonium impact. It is classified in not complicated and complicated. Clinically, it is characterized by the lack of mechonium elimination, abdominal distension and billiary emesis. In the diagnosis via imaging, simple x-ray shows data of low obstruction, characteristically an image of a bubble in the right iliac fossa, a fluid with a fibrous cystic wall that can be calcified; the colon for enema is diagnostic, existing micro colon. The ultrasound shows echogenicity, extensive loops with augmented walls. Material and methods: We introduce the case report of a one day old newly born sent to the radiology service with the diagnosis of bile duct cyst and data of intestinal obstruction to whom an abdomen x-ray followed by abdominal ultrasound, colon for enema and esophagus-gastro-duodenal series diagnosing mechonium cyst were carried out. Conclusions: The Radiologist should consider within his/her differential diagnoses in a newly born with mechonium ileum intestinal obstruction data, mechonium peritonitis and/or intestinal atresia to make an adequate approach and reach an opportune diagnosis this way.REFERENCES
