ABSTRACT
Introduction: With the increase in the procedures of endovascular therapy, increase in the complications inherent thereto, has also been reported. The pre-surgical embolization has been especially useful in Juvenile Nasopharyngeal Angiofibroma (JNA). We have reported a bigger incidence of these procedures. Complications presented may range from mild, moderate and severe. Among those occurring most often are: post-embolization pain, arterial transitory spasm, temporary facial nerve paralysis, undesirable embolism, arterial rupture and the loss of vision.
Material and Methods: 66 files of patients submitted to pre-surgical embolization of JNA were reviewed. Patients came from of the Otolaryngology Service from HGM (Mexico General Hospital) and CMN 20 de Noviembre ISSSTE (National Medical Center) to determine in how many of the patients, further complications to the embolization were reported and to describe what type.
Results: From a total of 66 files, in an equal number of patients, complications inherent to the embolization procedure were reported.
Conclusions and Discussion: The results reported in our series, are similar to those reported in the world literature, not bigger to 5% of the embolization. For such a reason, we recommend widely, a pre-surgical embolization to ease surgical resection.
