ABSTRACT
Inclusion body fibromatosis, so-called infantile digital fibromatosis is a benign proliferation of fibroblastic and myofibroblastic cells that typically occur on the dorsal aspect of digits of hand and feet of young children. It is named for the intracytoplasmic inclusions that are detected in some of the lesional cells. It is a rare tumor, the nodule usually is less than 2.0 cm in diameter, local recurrence occurs in about 50% of cases. More than one digit may be affected synchronously and asynchronously, and some of them regress spontaneously. A ten-year-old boy was seen with a painless tumor on the rigth ring finger, measuring 1.5 cm, and it was surgically removed. The histopathological findings showed a spindle cells proliferation in fascicles associated with varying amounts of extracellular collagen. The diagnostic feature was the presence of intracytoplasmic, eosinophilic spherical inclusions with variable staining for actin, and the ultrastructure showed a granular and filamentous appearance, typical of actin filaments. Four months later the patient develop another tumor on the little finger of the right hand that was also surgically removed too. This patient showed the typical localization and evolution of this particular fibromatosis with inclusion body in a child.
