Tumor de células gigantes en el extremo distal del radio

RESUMEN
El tumor de células gigantes es una de las neoplasias benignas más comunes; es bien conocido por su agresivo comportamiento local y su tendencia a recurrir. El sitio de presentación más común es el fémur distal y la tibia proximal en el 40% de los casos, seguido por el radio distal en un 10%. El tratamiento del tumor de células gigantes en radio distal es quirúrgico y se divide en dos grupos: 1) el legrado óseo con terapia adyuvante, aplicación de diversos tipos de injerto óseo autólogo o heterólogo o de metilmetacrilato y 2) la resección en bloque con colocación de injerto óseo autólogo o heterólogo tomado de diferentes partes del cuerpo, con artroplastia o artrodesis. La recurrencia es mayor cuando se localiza en el radio distal; en casos primarios es del 10% y en casos recurrentes del 30%. Esta recurrencia varía de acuerdo con el tipo de tratamiento y el estadio en el que se encuentre cuando se realiza el tratamiento. La anatomía del radio distal hace, por sí misma, difícil la resección del tumor con bordes amplios. Este trabajo presenta una revisión sobre las actualidades del tratamiento del tumor de células gigantes de radio distal.
