ABSTRACT
Giant cell tumor is a frequent benign neoplasm. It is characterized by local aggressive behavior and frequent recurrence. The most common localization is the distal femur and proximal tibia in 40% of all the cases, the distal radius is the next place in 10%. The giant cell tumor of the distal radius is treated surgically through two main groups of procedures: 1) curettage with adjuvant therapy, filling the bone defect with auto or allograft or bone cement and 2) bloc resection with placement of massive auto or allograft as the proximal fibula or fresh frozen distal radius and arthroplasty or artrodesis. The recurrence in the distal radius in primary cases is 10% and in recurrent cases is almost 30%. This recurrence is dependent to the treatment and the stage of the tumor at the time of treatment. Anatomy of the distal radius makes a difficult resection of the tumor. We present a literature revision of the surgical treatment of the giant cell tumor of the distal radius.
