ABSTRACT
Erythrasma is a superficial bacterial infection of the corneous layer of the skin. It is characterized by well-defined, but irregular reddish-brown scaly patches, mainly in intertriginous areas or by maceration in the interdigital areas of the feet. The causal agent is
Corynebacterium minutissimum. It was first described by Bouchardt in 1859. It is a cosmopolitan chronic disease, usually asymptomatic. In the last decade we found few papers about this subject. In Mexico the frequency is unknown, but it is one of the most frequent cutaneous pseudomicosis in patients with metabolic alterations as diabetes mellitus.
