ABSTRACT
Show our experience with laparoscopic Colostomy Reversal in 50 patients previously submitted to Hartmann’s technique. Twenty six (52.0%) patients were males and 24 (48%) females, with mean age of 47 years old. The procedures were performed between December 1991 to March 2007. The mean operative time was 152.9 min. There were 4 (8.0%) transoperative complications; 2 (4.0%) rectal ruptures with the circular stapler, one (2.0%) small bowel perforation and an epigastric artery injury (2.0%). There were 3 (6.0%) conversions (rectal rupture with the stapler, small bowel perforation and pelvic tumor invasion). Peristalsis was identified at a mean time of 15.9 hours, liquid diet was started at 1.9 days and the mean hospitalization period was 5.8 days. There were 8 (16.0%) postoperative complications; anastomose dehiscence (2-4.0%), wound infection, pelvic abscess, undetermined peritonitis, right shoulder pain, anastomose bleeding and anastomose leakage. The laparoscopic colostomy reversal is safe, with operative time similar or close to the conventional approach and with excellent clinical recovery.
