ABSTRACT
Objectives: To establish relation among increase of pressure of lower esophageal sphincter (LES) by Nissen fundoplication and life quality of the patients in relation to gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). To find relation between dysphagia and excessive increase of pressure of LES.
Material and methods: A observational, descriptive, longitudinal, prospective and retrospective study was made to 25 operated patients of laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication. It consisted of making postoperative manometry and to compare with preoperative manometry and modification of life style according to the Visick scale, we use a twin T test, in addition the presence of transoperative and postoperative complications was evaluated.
Results: The analysis of results of pre an postoperative manometrys showed statistically significant difference with p ‹ 0.001. Two patients had dysphagia, associated to excessive increase of pressure of LES over 30 mmHg. Of the total of twenty three patients, the evaluation of Visick stayed in class I in twenty one of themself. Visick III for one patient and Visick V for one patient.
Discussion and conclusions: The results showed that laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication is a safe, effective, procedure, which represents a good alternative in treatment of patients with GERD.
