ABSTRACT
The development of new technologies improving accuracy for removing disease in revision cases, with localization of key anatomical structures such as the fovea ethmoidalis, carotid along the sphenoid sinus, and other abnormal anatomic findings such as in polipoid nasal disease, would improve patient safety. Eighty six patients underwent endoscopic sinus surgery over 9 months using surgical navigation techniques. The system utilized was the LandmarX System (Xomed, Jacksonville). The system demonstrated an accuracy within 0.86 mm (SD = 0.94). After head movements for repositioning the patient during the procedure did not altered intraoperative accuracy that was 1.14 mm (SD = 1.7 mm). The main advantage in the use of this technology is the ability to use any instrument adapted to the system for use as a localizing instrument; e.g. microdebrider, endoscopes diverse instruments, forceps, suction tips, etc.
